Born in Ethiopia & based in San Francisco for the past nine years, Hadero became a sensation with the release of her debut On a Day Like This. A luminous album featuring original songs and some traditional Amharic music as well, it got rave reviews across the board.
NPR called Hadero’s sound, “a unique blend of jazz, Ethiopia, the San Francisco art scene and visceral poetry; it paints pictures in your head as you listen.”

PBS said “You’ll hear hints of Billie Holliday, Tracy Chapman and Joni Mitchell in her music but Hadero is her own unique creation.” And the San Francisco Chronicle called Meklit “…an artistic giant in the early stages . She is stunning.”
Commenting on the signing Meklit says “I’m thrilled to have found a new home at Six Degrees Records! The label’s down-home motto “Everything Is Closer Than You Think,” embodies that ever-hyphenated road that is the heart of my songs and work. In other words, we’re a natural fit. Peas in a musical pod. And we can’t wait to let the songs fly.”
“I’ve been a fan of Meklit and her music ever since I heard her beautiful debut album” says Six Degrees co-founder Bob Duskis. “I think that she is one of the most unique & original singer songwriters to emerge in years and the fact that she is living right in our backyard of San Francisco is an extra bonus”.
Meklit is managed by Deborah Cohen. Her Six Degrees debut will be released in early 2014.
