ABOUT THIS RELEASE

Release Date: May 25, 2018

From Canadian producer and multi-instrumentalist Andrew McPherson comes the second chapter of his ambient music project Peppermoth. Glimmer Tide continues exploring the rich sonic terrain of Peppermoth’s debut, Now You Hear Me, which paid considerable debt to ambient music’s forefathers like Eno, Harold Budd, Daniel Lanois, Ryuichi Sakamoto as well as early 20th century composers Claude Debussy and Erik Satie. With a less-is more philosophy, Peppermoth’s diverse palette of live instruments, sonic manipulation and melody-driven composition invites the listener to lean forward and place themselves in the songs as an active participant.

Glimmer Tide features a small ensemble of skilled players whose musical restraint and economy of expression supports this sonically inventive work. Returning contributors are brass player Gary Diggins (Kevin Breit, Cirque de Soleil, R. Murray Schaffer), bassist and multi-instrumentalist Jeff Bird (Cowboy Junkies, Loreena McKennit, Townes Van Zandt), alongside new addition Les Hartai (modular synths/Ableton). A longtime collaborator of Andrew’s from global fusionists Eccodek, Les’ subtle use of found sound and textured, live electronics brings a shape shifting new element to the Peppermoth sound. Built on improvisation, each player’s contribution shifts the music in new and dynamic directions. All of the material is played live, unsequenced and manipulated on classic analog synths, tape delays and instruments including trumpet, flugelhorn, piano, guitar, upright bass and Tibetan bells.

Andrew is no stranger to the music world, having lead the world dub fusion project Eccodek since 2002, with 7 albums released worldwide on White Swan/Black Swan Records. Eccodek has been nominated twice for a Juno Award (Canada’s Grammy’s), toured internationally as a 6-piece band and received a boat load of press over the years. The Boston Globe calls Andrew ‘a sonic architect’, while Huffington Post, Toronto Star, Stereogum, CMJ have all praised his unique brand of world fusion. Andrew has also produced for Dub Colossus, Vieux Farka Touré, Delhi 2 Dublin, Transglobal Underground, Desert Dwellers, Dubmatix, Jane Siberry, Syriana and Philosopher Kings with releases on labels like Six Degrees, Modiba, National Geographic and Buddha Bar. In 2017, Andrew released his 4th solo album, Bardo.
